Search Engine Marketing for Beginners
There’s many ways to get your own web site known to the world. Certainly, the key to getting traffic and sales is to have a good site, with great content. But it doesn’t stop there. Even if you have the best site in the world, nobody will go there if no one knows it exists. To this day, search engines are the number one way people find sites and content online. Most average users go to Google or Bing, and they input some terms. This is why getting good search engine rankings are crucial, and doing some search engine marketing can help a lot.
When it comes to search engine marketing, there’s several things that can be done. First, standard SEO, or search engine optimization, needs to be taken care of. If you don’t do proper SEO on your site, then spending money on actual marketing campaigns will be a waste. Your site has to answer a specific niche, something people will look for. And when they look for those key words, your site has to come up on top, or very near the top. This is accomplished by tailoring your content to those keywords, and doing a few more things to make sure search engines know about your content, and indexes it favorably. This includes using the proper meta tags in your code, going to other sites and getting backlinks to your own site, to increase its authority in the eyes of search engines, and making sure you’re in the Google webmasters interface, so that the engine crawler knows about you and all the pages you host.
Once basic SEO is done, you can do searches yourself, and should find out that your content arrives at the top of the results whenever you do a search. That’s when you can add an even bigger presence by using actual money, by creating marketing campaigns. The most popular online ad network is Google’s AdWords. Using this network, you can easily create your own marketing campaigns, either to get ads shown on the search engine results, or on other sites that use AdSense. Getting your ads optimized for AdWords can cover a full book, but there’s a few tips you should keep in mind to start a successful campaign. First, you need to understand that AdWords works by bidding. This means anyone an bid on a keyword, and thus the cost of that keyword will go up. So if you want to run an ad about a popular topic, each click will cost you a lot of money. Instead, focus on rare keywords, and you won’t pay that much. Also, you can customize whether you want text or graphics ads, and which format. Research some of the most popular formats, since they don’t all have the same turnover rate. You can run tests, and find out what works best for you.
Search engine marketing is a complex topic, but we can get you started. You can easily spend a lot of money trying to get traffic to your site, which is why it’s best to start slowly, and work with professionals. Also, don’t forget that Google may be the most popular option, but there’s others out there, like Bing and Yahoo, plus social networks like Facebook. We do search engine marketing, social media marketing, and search engine optimization so don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help or are not getting the results your business needs.
